Tooth decay or injury can infect the inside of the tooth, consisting of pulps of the nerves and vessels.
The root of the tooth’s canal allows these vessels and nerves to connect with the body’s nervous system.
With infection, the root canal can become obstructed which can cause serious damage.
The root canal treatment cleans out the infected pulp and replaces it with an inert filling.
Medication is injected into the canal to help fight bacteria.
A porcelain crown then caps the tooth to protect it.

You may require a root canal if you experience the following:

Pain and throbbing
Pain while biting and chewing
Sensitivity to hot and cold
Severe decay or injury that has infected the bone surrounding the tooth
